What is the gospel?

If you are interested in going through a class explaining the gospel of Jesus Christ, and and what it means to be a Christian, please let the pastor know.

Sundays

Worship

Following the Old Testament pattern for morning and evening sacrifices (Ps. 141:2; Ps. 63:5,6), and the historical practice of the church by meeting twice on the Lord’s Day, we meet for worship at 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Sundays (at 2:00 p.m. on the last Sunday of the month). These two ‘bookends’ help us to keep the Lord’s day holy (Ex. 20:8-11).

Sunday School

As part of our Christian Education ministry, we offer Sunday School for all ages, beginning at 10:00 a.m., usually ending around 10:45 a.m. Our adult Sunday School is family friendly, and we stick loosely to a four year curriculum covering books of the bible, doctrine, church history, presbyterianism, the life of Christ, in addition to other biblical topics.

Women

We offer a ladies’ bible study once per month in one of the homes of our members, usually on the third Thursday of the month at 2:30 p.m. See our announcement section in a bulletin for specific time and place.

Children

We offer Sunday School for our covenant children, where they are taught the fundamentals of the faith using the children’s catechism, having a little fun along the way. We hope to have more edifying activities in the future, such as a vacation bible school.

Youth

While we do not have the typical youth group, we have encouraged outings and fellowships in the past, and hope to have more in the future. We encourage parents, especially fathers, to bring up their children ‘in the training and admonition of the Lord,’ (Eph. 6:4).

College and Career

There has been an interest in developing a fellowship group for young adults to get together for study and fellowship.

Men

During the warmer months, our men get together monthly for a breakfast, usually the third Saturday of the month, at which time we rub elbows at the table and are encouraged by a devotional. Check the bulletin for details. During certain seasons within the life of the church, we will offer officer training for those who’ve demonstrated not only a desire, but also the gifts necessary for service in Christ’s church as a deacon or elder (I Timothy 3:1-13). It is also our pastor’s desire to see a ‘men’s workday’ established in the future, as well as spontaneous, unofficial ‘get togethers.’

Host Family

For those desirous to show hospitality to strangers, we have a rotating schedule among some of our members, to host visitors for lunch on a Sunday after the morning service. We’ve found this practice to be helpful for those traveling, or wanting to get to know us a little better.

Mercy Ministry

The diaconal ministry is a key part of kingdom work (Acts 6:1-7). Deacons are more than ‘light bulb changers.’ They serve by helping to provide physical necessities in the name of Christ to those who are in need. However, they lead in this work-they aren’t the only ones called to do it. So they oversee and enlist help in this area. One outworking of this is a ‘meals ministry’ which provides members who’ve been ill, or for some reason could use a meal prepared with Christian love. “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith." (Gal. 6:10)

Other

While the word of God never changes, sometimes our ministry needs to. If there is a biblical need in the congregation, we will certainly consider how we might meet it.
